Monthly Unconference @ the Islands of jokaydia!

The Islands of jokaydia Community of Practice is hosting a monthly mini-unconference throughout 2009. The aim of this initiative is to encourage open and broad discussion of any and all issues, ideas and projects relating to virtual worlds and education.

ALL SL residents are welcome to attend, to share their projects or lead a discussion... we need your input! If you'd like to get involved please include your proposed project in the table below.

The Venue:


The jokaydia Montly Unconference will be held @ various locations on the Islands of jokaydia. Depending on the areas of discussion we may also visit other sims or virtual worlds platforms. The jokaydia Mini Conference Event No.2 which is being held on 8 March 2009 will begin at jokaydia Castle! (SLurl).

Volunteers we need you! Come along and share your ideas, suggestions, proposals for jokaydia's September Festival - which will be held on 25 - 27th September 2009. For further info see our September Festival Wiki page.

Launch of our new jokaydia Community Project - constructing both a 3D and a 2D wiki for resource sharing of virtual worlds education resources, professional development and tips, tools and tricks!

A few guidelines:


  • Your unconference session should be focussed on education in virtual worlds, however it can be on any platform or educational sector. The jokaydia Community reserves the right to exclude sessions which are solely advertising or promotion of products.
  • Unconferences are about participation and sharing. You are encouraged to share works in progress, explore and experiment during your session!
  • All unconference sessions will be recorded and published on the jokaydia website. By leading a session or contributing to the discussion you agree that your voice may be published.
  • Session leaders are welcome to plan tours or excursions as part of the unconference.

Dell Wilberg: Futurist and Public Speaker
Planned sessions include:

  • jokaydia's EduSquare Community Project Launch
    This month we'll be launching our new intiatives to engage our whole community in creating resources to share at EduSquare.. think 3D Wikis, open source collections and collaboration! I hope you'll come and join in for fun, learning and resource development!

    • Eternal Life: Using 3D Virtual Worlds Technology For Life Extension and creating the new "Uploadable You".
  • Futurist Dell Wilberg will be sharing his insights on the use of existing and future Virtual Reality and 3D worlds to extend your life both today and tomorrow. Did Ponce de León have the right idea and the wrong technology? Dell will set out to prove that you do not have to explore the everglades of Florida to find the mythical fountain of youth. It exists today if your willing to open your mind to the possibilities of Virtual World life extension.
